Are Diamond Rings becoming too risky to wear? Theft and loss of diamond rings are on the increase & should we now only wear cosmetic jewelery?
Diamond rings are worn by millions of women across the world. But recently there has been a spate of thefts and losses that make one think about wearing real diamond rings in public.
LONDON, ENGLAND, July 09, 2010 /Jewelry PR News/ -- Recently there has been a number of high profile robberies whereby jewellers and women/men have had their diamond rings stolen from them. Is it now time that diamond rings should be locked up in the safe at home or in the bank, and that women should wear cosmetic jewelery in public?
If one looks at recent events, there has certainly been an increase in the reported theft of diamond rings in the press. Just last week an 80 year old man had a ring stolen from his finger whilst sitting at a bus stop.
Donald Youngman was waiting for a bus in Hendon, London when a man approached him on a black bike. Before he knew it, the man grabbed his hand and yanked the diamond ring of his finger and then sped off. Mr Youngman said: "It all happened in a second. He is obviously a nasty piece of work. People like that are so vile and are quite revolting."
This is not a rare occurrence; there are numerous reports every week of jewelery being stolen from people on the street. Lets not forget the massive jewelery theft at Graff's last year where the whole heist was caught on CCTV.
Lewis Malka, from Bespoke Jewelers Joseph Sterling believes that the theft of diamond rings is nothing new. "Even though there has been recently an increase in the theft of diamond rings, there is nothing to be alarmed about. Thieves have been stealing jewelery for as long as it has been around. I always advise my clients to keep your wits about you and always make sure that insurance is in place for your jewelery."
The theft of expensive diamond rings will always make the news headlines. Some people may feel uncomfortable wearing real diamond rings in public, but on the whole most people don't feel it necessary to keep their diamond rings locked up at home. Should the increase of thefts continue, maybe people might just change their mind.
